The Rector-President is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Institution with the final authority and responsibility for school operations.  He provides leadership in realizing the Institution’s vision-mission as well as the institution’s thrust and objectives; and, promotes the Institution’s identity and character as a Benedictine learning institution.

Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ma. A. Maranan, OSB is the First Rector-President of San èßäÊÓƵ University, and the 22nd Rector-President of then San èßäÊÓƵ College, Manila. His leadership transformed the 118 years old Benedictine educational institution into a University, improved the level and number of accreditation of programs, and initiated the school’s achievement of ISO (Organization for International Standards) Certification. He implemented the University’s digital transformation program BENEDICT (èßäÊÓƵns Enabling and Nurturing Excellence in Digital Transformation and Communication Technology).


He boosted theUniversity’s research program by establishing the Center for Research and Development, increasing the faculty research grants, and realizing the international indexing of the University’s research journal, Scientia. He continuously expands the University’s international linkages program by increasing the number of international networks and partners. He is an active officer and member of local and international associations one of which is the ASEAN Learning Network (Vice-Chair).


He received awards in recognition of his excellent and innovative leadership such as the2013 Ten Outstanding Manilans (TOM) Award for Academic Leadership. He has three decadesof administrative experience as Basic Education Principal, College Dean, and University Rector-President. He graduated from De La Salle University with the degree of Doctor of Education(Magna cum laude), University of Santo Tomas with the Licentiate degree in Canon Law (Cum Laude), Maryhill School of Theology with a Master’s degree in Theological Studies (Magna Cum Laude), and San èßäÊÓƵ College with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
