Laboratory Work Processes

  1. A maximum of forty (40) students will be allowed in all laboratory rooms, except for the Research Laboratory which can accommodate twenty-five (25) students only.

  1. For laboratory room reservation and for requests of reagents, apparatus, and materials students, faculty, and guests should fill up the form that are available at the Science Laboratory Web page and send it to the following

  1. Reservations and requests must be emailed at least two working days prior to the experiment. An acknowledgement note will be sent upon receipt of request. If the request is cancelled, cancellation must be done within the two-day period.

  1. To avoid long queues of students and faculty in getting the requested materials in the laboratory office/workstation and stock room, the requested reagents, apparatus, and other materials will be brought to the classroom by the laboratory aides.

  1. On-the-spot requests for reagents, apparatus and materials will not be entertained, especially during peak hours.

  1. Ten (10) minutes of each class will be allocated for the laboratory aides to deliver & collect materials, as well as to clean the room after each use.


For Professors/Faculty/Students: *

  1. Wear laboratory gowns always. A student will not be allowed to enter the room if he/she does not comply.

  1. Throw disposable gloves and face masks in the designated trash bin.

  1. Faculty members must inform the office upon dismissal of classes or after using the room.

  1. All equipment must be cleaned before leaving the room.

  1. Faculty members must be present with their students in the laboratory, especially during experiments.



For Guest/Supplier * 

  1. Set an appointment at least 5 working days for any transactions (product demo, promotion, deliveries, collection, etc.) via email at sciencelab@sanbeda.edu.ph.

  1. Regular suppliers may be welcome for a visit provided they do not bring along any equipment for demonstration or delivery.

  1. Sign the visitor's logbook.



Guidelines for Reservation for the Online Use of Anatomage.  

  1. Provide the office with the schedule of online classes. 

  1. Fill out the downloadable form for the use of Anatomage.

  1. Requests must be made at least 2 days before the activity to avoid overlapping of schedule. 

  1.  Only one faculty member can use the Anatomage at the scheduled time. 

  1. All science faculty members will be given the chance to use the equipment. The office would see to it that NO faculty monopolizes the use.



PROCEDURE ON HOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS ON THE USE OF SCIENCE LABORATORIES/ LECTURE ROOM 

  1. Obtain two copies of the reservation form from the laboratory assistant. Ensure completion of the form before submission. 

  1. Submit the form to the laboratory technician/assistant for recording schedule and approval of the Science Laboratories Head.

  1. Keep the duplicate copy for your file.

  1. Observe strictly the schedule of the reservation to avoid conflict with other classes.

Note: Reservation for the use of any Science Laboratory/ Lecture Room should be made at least one (1) day before the laboratory activity.

  1. Requests for reagents and apparatus must be filed at least two (2) working days prior to the scheduled activity/experiment.

PROCEDURE ON HOW TO BORROW AND RELEASE APPARATUS/ EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS FROM THE SCIENCE LABORATORIES OFFICE* 

  1. Complete the reservation form thoroughly and submit it to the laboratory technician/assistant for confirmation. Clearly indicate the quantity and specifications of the required glassware/equipment. Please note that additional equipment will not be provided on the day of the experiment.

  1. Before leaving the office, students must ensure that the borrowed materials are complete and in good condition. Any discrepancies should be addressed before leaving.

  1. During the experiment, maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the materials used. Return them in the same condition they were borrowed.

  1. Upon return, the Laboratory Technician/Assistant will inspect the materials to ensure they are complete and undamaged.

  1. The Laboratory Technician/assistant checks if the returned materials are complete and in good condition.

  1. In case of any crack, damage, or loss, the materials must be replaced with identical specifications and brand within the semester.

  2. Failure to settle any breakages will result in the withholding of clearance for graduation.



GUIDELINES ON THE USE OF SCIENCE LABORATORIES AND RESOURCES FOR OUTSIDERS* 

  1. Submit a Letter of Intent addressed to the Head of the Science Laboratories with an endorsement from the Dean/Principal of the requesting institution.

  1. The letter should contain the title of the experiment, and the list of apparatus and equipment needed and the List of names of those who will enter the campus. Also include the list of equipment/reagents that you will bring inside the campus. Reagents will not be provided.

  1. The letter must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the activity's conduct.

  1. The letters may be sent via email to the following:

  1. An acknowledgment is sent upon receipt of emails and approval of the request.

  1. Once approved, the laboratory technician sends the Science Laboratories safety protocol and guidelines on the use of SBU Science Laboratories through email.

  1. Notify the office through email or text message for cancellation of the reservation. Available slot may be given to the next person in line. 

  1. All teachers and students should observe cleanliness and proper waste disposal. Follow instructions on the proper up-keep of the laboratories.

  1. All teachers and students must observe extreme care and precautionary measures in working in the laboratories. All air-conditioning units must be switched off when experiments involving chemicals or flames are conducted.

  1. Faculty members must be present with their students during experiments.
